The Oberkloster in Neuss was established in 1181 as a significant site for the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine. It became part of the Windesheim Congregation in 1430 and served as Charles the Bold's headquarters at times. The monastery remained until its dissolution in 1802.

Here you are, standing at a place steeped in history. The Oberkloster, named after the nearby Obertor, was established in 1181. It served as a significant site for the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine and was part of the Windesheim Congregation from 1430. Imagine this place as the headquarters of Charles the Bold at times. Though the monastery was dissolved in 1802, the stories linger in its remains. Just 83 meters to the southwest, you can find the Alexius/Josef Hospital. Looking southeast, the St. Alexius monument tells its own tale of the city's rich past.
