Built between 1574 and 1577 in the Renaissance style, the Steintor is a distinctive part of Rostock's historic city fortifications. It replaced an older gateway and is one of the city's four main gates. As an architectural heritage monument of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it features the inscription: 'Sit intra te concordia et publica felicitas'.
