Constructed from 1838 to 1840, the Burtscheider Viaduct was Germany's first large railway viaduct. It is located on the Cologne–Aachen railway line and remains one of the oldest railway bridges still in use today. The viaduct was built by the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft.
