Kalkofen "Wolfspfad"
A Glimpse into Industrial Heritage
Did you know?
Despite being built between 1870 and 1924, the lime kilns in the Kornelimünster/Walheim district were shut down by the 1950s due to structural changes in the lime industry.
Guided Story
Imagine standing in front of a monument to a bygone industrial era. This lime kiln at Wolfspfad has weathered the passage of over a hundred years. Look around you, the massive stones tell stories of when lime burning was central to the local economy. If you glance to your right, you can imagine workers tirelessly shoveling limestone into this kiln. Just a bit northeast of here is a wooded area known as Ströhbend, quietly witnessing the shift from industry to nature. Did you know that after World War II, this kiln was modernized to meet the demands of the time? But by the mid-1950s, the industry had moved on, reshaping the landscape of lime production.
