Here you are in front of a unique piece of Aachen's artistry. Notice the six bronze seahorses standing proudly around the fountain column. These figures were crafted by the Aachen sculptor Josef 'Jupp' Zeller. The fountain, designed by architect Gerhard Thomalla, was originally placed in the rotunda of the Elisenbrunnen in 1956. It found its current home here on Kapellenstraße in 1971. The large basin, created from dark marble by the workshop of Ewald Mies, measures an impressive 3.30 meters in diameter. As you admire the fountain, you can spot the Marienkapelle about 131 meters to the southwest. Visiting this site offers a glimpse into the region's history and art.
