In front of you stands the St. Pius Church, an outstanding example of 1960s modern architecture. Designed by Würzburg architect Hans Schädel, it was built between 1964 and 1965. On September 4, 1966, Bishop Josef Stimpfle consecrated this church, dedicating it to Pope Pius X. Notice the clean lines and simple elegance characteristic of this era's design. If you turn and look 241 meters southeast, you'll see a memorial stone honoring the 2,700 people forced into labor at the nearby concentration camp subcamp. This church stands as a silent witness to history and a symbol of renewal and hope.
