In front of the Alte Nationalgalerie, the equestrian statue commemorates King Frederick William IV of Prussia (1795–1861). Crafted by Alexander Calandrelli from a design by Gustav Blaeser, it was completed in 1886 in the realism style. Standing 9.6 meters tall, it is considered a masterpiece of the Berlin School of Sculpture.
