Right in front of the Christuskirche, you're standing on the Square of European Promise. This unique space was designed by artist Jochen Gerz to honor those committed to the European cause. Look down at the ground: the plates embedded here carry the names of citizens dedicated to this idea. The square was inaugurated in 2016, a project that cost several million euros. By 2017, the first cracks appeared in the slabs. Just behind you, about 41 meters northeast, stands the impressive Christuskirche. A bit further, roughly 121 meters northeast, is the Bochum Town Hall. This area is a testament to commitment and change, deeply rooted in European history.
