St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Brandenburg an der Havel, founded in 1165, is the city's largest church. Initially a Romanesque hall church, it evolved into a three-nave cross basilica in the Brick Gothic style. Once the core of the historic Diocese of Brandenburg, the Protestant cathedral is now part of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia.
