Built in 1302, Braunschweig's Altstadtrathaus is one of Germany's oldest town halls and a striking example of Gothic architecture. It served as the center for the most powerful of the city's five districts. Together with the Martinikirche, it defines the distinctive western side of the Altstadtmarkt.
