The Wilhelm Bauer submarine, a Type XXI U-boat from the Kriegsmarine, was completed in 1945 and scuttled at the end of the war. Raised in 1957 and recommissioned by the Bundesmarine in 1960, it was fully retired in 1983. Now exhibited at the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, it remains the only floating example of its kind.
