Villa Esche, located in the Kapellenberg district, is an Art Nouveau masterpiece designed in 1902 by the renowned architect Henry van de Velde. As van de Velde's first residential project in Germany, it signifies the dawn of modern architecture in the country. Surrounded by a small park designed by Maria Séthe, the villa is a recognized cultural heritage monument and part of the Iconic Houses Network.
