The Löwendenkmal in Dortmund, created by Melchior Anton zur Strassen, was inaugurated on October 17, 1869, to commemorate the Austro-Prussian War. It honors the brave sons of the city who died heroically in 1866 for King and country. Made of iron, it bears inscriptions with the names of the fallen.
