Standing 18 meters tall on Erfurt's Domplatz, the Erthal Obelisk was erected in 1777 to honor the Archbishop of Mainz, Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal. Made from Wandersleben sandstone, it features intricate designs on a granite base. Citizens raised 858 of the 1120 thalers needed for its construction.
