Hengsteysee, constructed in 1929, is a reservoir beautifully situated between Hagen, Dortmund, and Herdecke. As one of the six Ruhr reservoirs, it is a defining feature of the region, managed by the Ruhrverband. Its name is derived from the nearby Hengstey district of Hagen.
