Nestled between Alsterkrugchaussee and Hamburg Airport lies the Eppendorfer Moor, a 26-hectare nature reserve protected since 1982. This lowland moor is a remnant of the Alster Valley wetlands and is the largest urban moor in Europe. A former shooting range for Infantry Regiment No. 76, it still lends its name to the nearby street, Kugelfang.

It formed after the last Ice Age and remains a link to the once extensive wetlands of the Alster Valley. Imagine, up until 1904, a shooting range of Infantry Regiment No. 76 was here, leaving its mark on the nearby street, Kugelfang. Look east, and you might spot the Wandsbek Rowing Club. It's fascinating to see how history and nature intertwine in this unique spot.
