Imagine walking through a park that once stood as a formidable fortification. That's what the Große Wallanlagen in Hamburg represent. These green spaces emerged after the fortifications were dismantled following the end of the French occupation in 1814. Look to the west, and you'll see how the historic ring structure of the walls still influences the city’s street layout. In the direction of Enckeplatz, you can imagine the old defensive structures that once stretched out. Between Dammtor and Stintfang, you experience the blend of history and nature, now preserved as part of Planten un Blomen and the Alter Elbpark. It's fascinating how this transformation turned the former moats into an inviting park.
