Constructed between 1857 and 1866, the Welfenschloss is a neo-Gothic quadrangular complex in the round-arch style. Originally the residence of the Kings of Hannover, it has housed the University of Hannover since 1879. The castle forms a striking ensemble with the adjacent Welfengarten.
