Once used by the U.S. military, the Old Airfield in Karlsruhe has transformed into a valuable nature reserve. The area’s sandy and nutrient-poor grasslands provide habitat for over 80 bird species, more than 100 types of moths, and over 280 different flowering plants. Established in 2010, it is managed by the Karlsruhe Regional Council.
