Guided Story
Can you hear the gentle sound of water flowing beneath you? That's the Karl-Heine Canal meandering through Leipzig's Plagwitz. This bridge you're standing on, the König-Johann-Brücke, has witnessed more than most of us. Built in 1862, it’s seen the rise of Leipzig as an industrial hub, with this area bustling with textile factories. Imagine horse-drawn carriages and workers crossing here back in the day. Look up and you’ll see it's named after King Johann of Saxony. Did you know he was not only a king but also an avid translator? He translated Dante's 'Divine Comedy' into German. Fascinating, right? As you stroll across, you might catch sight of the Heilandskirche to the northeast, another historical gem.
