The Asperger Torhaus was part of Ludwigsburg's former city fortifications, which included a 6-kilometer wall with several gatehouses. It served as a guardhouse and customs office to prevent soldiers stationed in the city from deserting. Today, the gatehouse is a protected monument managed by Buergerverein Weststadt und Pflugfelden e.V.
