Built on the foundations of an 8th-century abbey, the Altmünsterkirche in Mainz's Old Town was reconstructed in the 1950s after being destroyed in World War II. Designed by architect Heinrich Otto Vogel, the church was consecrated in 1960. It serves the Protestant community and is also used by the Armenian Apostolic Church.
