The blue pillar at Sendlinger Tor in Munich, designed by Wolfgang Tillmans, was unveiled on July 17, 2002. It commemorates the victims and those affected by AIDS, as well as their friends and families, from 1981 to today. Tillmans modeled the pillar after the columns in the nearby Sendlinger Tor subway station.
