Guided Story
As you stand before the Stiftskirche, take in the baroque architecture that was commissioned by Duke Karl I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel between 1752 and 1758. This church was built on the site of a previous one and originally belonged to the Steterburg Abbey. After the abbey was dissolved in 1939, it became the parish church for the local Lutheran community. Until 1980, it bore the names of its patron saints, 'St. Christopher and St. James the Less'. If you look southeast, you might catch a glimpse of the Schwarz-Weiß Steterburg tennis club, just a short distance from here.
