This memorial honors the Hohe Carlsschule, a prominent Enlightenment-era educational institution from 1781 to 1794. Founded by Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg, it was elevated to university status by Emperor Joseph II in 1782. The original barracks were constructed by J.C.D. Leger and later expanded by R.F.H. Fischer.
