Built in 1913 by Wilhelm Kreis, the former Tietz department store now hosts a vibrant cultural center on 20,000 square meters. It houses the adult education center, Chemnitz city library, the Museum of Natural History, and the Neue Sächsische Galerie. The centerpiece is the Petrified Forest in the atrium, Europe's largest plant fossil.
