It honors the UN Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dag Hammarskjöld, who tragically died in a plane crash the year before. The bridge links the serene Planten un Blomen park with the Gustav Mahler Park, offering a peaceful transition between these two green spaces. As you look around, you can see the War Memorial about 36 meters to the southwest, a reminder of the horrors of war. To the east, just 38 meters away, stands the Schiller Memorial, a tribute to the renowned poet Friedrich Schiller. This bridge is not just a path across the Dammtordamm, but a piece of history and a place of remembrance.
