In front of the Old Stock Exchange on Naschmarkt stands a striking bronze statue of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Created by Carl Seffner, the monument commemorates Goethe's nearly three years of study in Leipzig. The statue was erected on June 28, 1903, and is now a recognized heritage monument in Saxony.
