Guided Story
Take a look at these grand columns rising before you. Did you know they were meant to symbolize freedom and unity? King Ludwig I had a vision to transform Munich into a city reminiscent of the great cities of antiquity. And right here at the Propylaea, you can feel that vision come alive. Imagine the ceremonial processions that once passed through here to mark significant events. Turn around and gaze at Königsplatz – it was intended to be a gathering place, much like the ancient Greek agora. Nearby, you can also spot the Basilica of St. Boniface, another masterpiece from the era. The Propylaea is not just a gateway, but a window into the past.
