The University of Music and Theatre Munich, established in 1846 as the Royal Conservatory of Music, stands as one of Germany's largest cultural institutions. It was renamed in 1998 and integrated the Richard Strauss Conservatory in 2008. The building, designed by architects Josef Wiedemann and Franz Hart, was constructed in 1959.
