Bochum's Westpark is a key element in the urban development of the city's western downtown area. Opened in 1999, the approximately 38-hectare park features the Jahrhunderthalle, repurposed as an event center, at its heart. In 2009, the redesign received the National Prize for Integrated Urban Development and Building Culture.
