What is the difference between a souvenir and a visit?

Souvenir vs. visit — two different concepts

itemID distinguishes between souvenirs and visits. Although both are connected to places, they represent different actions.

What is a souvenir?

A souvenir is a physical product from a partner (e.g., a postcard, keychain, or fridge magnet) that you register on itemID via the printed QR code. The souvenir is added to your collection and shows which product you acquired from which partner.

What is a visit?

A visit (check-in) occurs when you check in at a place or on a trail — either automatically via geolocation or manually via the place's QR code. Visits count toward your exploration progress and contribute to trail completions.

How they interact

A souvenir can additionally trigger a visit if the licensed product is linked to a specific place. But not every souvenir creates a visit — and not every visit results in a souvenir.
