Achievements & Gamification
Guide to the achievement system β badges, points, and exploration milestones.
Overview
The achievement system rewards your exploration with badges and points. Every milestone you reach β from your first place visit to completing an entire trail β earns you recognition.
How You Earn Achievements
Achievements are unlocked by reaching exploration milestones:
- Exploration: Visit your first place, reach 5 or 25 places visited
- Trails: Complete trails and reach visit milestones along the way
- Hidden gems: Discover hidden places by scanning their QR codes on-site
- Collector: Register souvenir products from city partners
Points
Each achievement awards points β for example, 10 points for your first place visit, 25 for reaching 5 places, or 50 for completing a trail. Points are earned through achievements only, not per check-in.
Explorer Ranking
Your total points determine your ranking among other explorers in a city. Your ranking badge (e.g., "Top 10%") is displayed on the city page when you're logged in.
Celebrations
When you unlock an achievement, you'll see a brief notification with the badge name and points earned. Especially significant or secret achievements are celebrated with a special full-screen gold animation.
Hidden Gems
Some places are hidden β they don't appear on the map or in place listings. You can only discover them by scanning the QR code at the location. Finding a hidden gem triggers a special reveal animation and unlocks a unique achievement.
Trail Completion
When you check in at the final stop on a trail, the trail is automatically marked as complete. You'll earn the trail completion achievement and see a celebration marking your accomplishment.
