Privacy in Community Networks

Your privacy is fundamental to how Community Networks work. itemID is designed so you can participate fully without ever revealing your personal information to other members.

What Other Members See

  • Alert details: Description, structured chips, and photos of the lost item — never the owner's personal info
  • Sighting reports: Description, approximate location, and photos — never the reporter's identity
  • Member count: How many members are in the community — but not who they are

What Is Never Shared

  • Your real name, email address, or phone number
  • Your exact location (always approximated)
  • Your itemID account details or registered items
  • Your browsing history or activity patterns

Data Handling

  • Photo metadata: EXIF data (GPS, device info) is stripped from uploaded photos
  • Location data: Rounded to protect your exact position
  • Alerts: Automatically archived after resolution
  • Account deletion: All your community data (alerts, sightings, subscriptions) is permanently deleted when you delete your account

Your Controls

  • Choose which communities to join and leave at any time
  • Select which alert topics you want to receive notifications for
  • Delete your own alerts and sightings at any time
  • Report inappropriate content through the moderation system

GDPR Compliance

itemID is a German company. All community data is stored on servers in Germany and processed in full compliance with GDPR. You can request a full export or deletion of your data at any time.
