How does the chat work?

How Chat Works

When someone finds your item and scans the QR code, they can send you a message directly through itemID.

The Process

1. Finder scans your QR code
2. They see your item page
3. They write a message
4. You receive a notification
5. You reply in the ID chat

Location & Image Sharing

Both you and the finder can share a location in chat — via GPS or by typing an address. This helps coordinate a pickup. Account holders can also attach photos to their messages.

Privacy Protected

Communication happens through itemID's secure system:

• Your email stays hidden
• Your phone number stays hidden
• Only your display name is visible

Notifications

You'll know when someone messages you:

• Email — Always (check spam!)
• Push — If enabled (Plus feature)
• In-app — Unread badge in dashboard

Real-Time

Messages appear instantly. Keep the tab open for live updates, or check back anytime.
