How do push notifications work?

🤝 Community1 min read·Updated today

Push Notifications

Push notifications are real-time browser alerts that appear on your device when something happens in your community — even when you are not actively using itemID.

What triggers a push notification?

  • New community alert: A lost item or pet is reported near you
  • New sighting report: Someone spots your lost item and submits a sighting
  • Alert resolved: A lost item has been found and the alert is closed

How to enable push notifications

  1. Go to your community page and open Notification Preferences
  2. Toggle Push Notifications on
  3. Your browser will ask for permission — click Allow
  4. You're all set! Notifications will appear even when itemID is in the background

Requirements

  • A modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari 16.4+)
  • On iOS, the app must be added to your Home Screen (PWA mode)
  • Push notifications must be enabled in your subscription tier

Managing push notifications

You can toggle push notifications on or off at any time from your community subscription preferences. You can also manage browser notification permissions in your browser settings.
