What is the sighting map?

Sighting Map

When community members report sightings for an alert, each sighting location appears on an interactive map. This helps the alert owner — and other community members — see where the lost item or pet has been spotted.

What You See

  • Alert location: The original "last seen" location is shown as a marker on the map
  • Sighting markers: Each reported sighting with a location appears as a separate marker. Tap a marker to see the sighting details and notes
  • Trail line: When there are multiple sightings, a line connects them in chronological order, showing the movement path

Where to Find It

The sighting map appears automatically on the alert detail page and on the sightings list page whenever there are sightings with location data.

Tips

  • Check the sighting map regularly when you have an active alert — new sightings appear as they are reported
  • The trail line can help you predict where a lost pet might be heading
  • Encourage community members to use the "current location" option when reporting sightings for the most accurate map data
