Sighting Report Privacy
itemID is designed to protect your privacy when you report a sighting. You are always in control of how much information is shared.
What the Alert Owner Sees
- The time and location you reported
- Your notes and photo (if provided)
- Your contact preference
What the Alert Owner Does NOT See
- Your email address (even for guest reports)
- Your exact identity (if you chose anonymous contact)
- Your account details beyond your display name (if you chose direct contact)
Contact Preferences Explained
| Option | Owner Sees Your Name? | Owner Can Message You? |
|---|---|---|

| No, don't contact me | No | No |
Guest Reporters
If you report a sighting without an account, you provide an email address so the platform can relay messages from the owner. Your email is never shared directly with the alert owner — all communication goes through itemID.
Data Retention
Sighting data is retained for 90 days after the alert is resolved, then automatically deleted.
