Attaching Labels

Best practices for label placement by item type.

Placement Best Practices

Where you place your itemID label matters. A well-placed label is easy for finders to spot and scan, while also being protected from wear and tear. The goal is to make the QR code visible enough to be noticed but durable enough to last.

Always ensure the QR code is placed on a flat, smooth surface. Avoid wrapping labels around curved edges, as this can distort the code and make it difficult to scan.

Recommendations by Item Type

Keys & Keychains

For keys, use a keychain tag or a small laminated label attached to the key ring. This keeps the QR code protected and easily accessible. Consider using a clear protective sleeve for extra durability.

Bags & Luggage

Place the label on the inside of a flap or pocket where it's protected but still easy to find. For luggage, the luggage tag holder is an ideal spot. You can also attach it near the handle on the exterior for quick scanning. For suitcases, consider placing a second label inside the main compartment as a backup in case the exterior tag is lost during transit.

Electronics

For laptops, tablets, and phones, place the label on the back or bottom of the device. Use a protective clear case over it if possible. For items like headphones or chargers, attach a small label tag to the cable or carrying case.

Pets

Use the specially designed pet tag format and attach it to your pet's collar alongside their regular ID tag. The pet tags are designed to be waterproof and durable enough for everyday wear.

Durability Tips

For outdoor items or items exposed to the elements, apply a layer of clear tape or a protective laminate over the label. This significantly extends the label's lifespan and keeps the QR code scannable even in rain or snow. Replace labels if they become faded, scratched, or peeling to ensure reliable scanning.
