QR Code Scanning Issues
Solutions for common QR scanning problems.
Common Scanning Problems
QR code scanning is designed to work reliably with any modern smartphone camera, but certain conditions can cause issues. If a QR code isn't scanning, the problem is usually related to lighting, distance, print quality, or device settings. Here are the most common issues and how to resolve them.
Troubleshooting Steps
Camera Won't Recognize the Code
Most smartphones scan QR codes directly through the default camera app β no extra app is needed. Simply open your camera, point it at the QR code, and wait for the notification to appear. If nothing happens:
- Ensure QR code scanning is enabled in your camera settings (some devices have this as a toggle)
- Try holding the camera steady at a distance of 10β20 cm from the code
- Make sure the entire QR code is visible within the camera frame
- Clean your camera lens β fingerprints and smudges can prevent recognition
Poor Lighting Conditions
QR codes need adequate lighting to be recognized. If you're in a dark environment, try turning on your phone's flashlight or moving to a better-lit area. Avoid strong glare or reflections on the label surface, as these can interfere with scanning. Matte-finish labels generally scan better than glossy ones in bright light.
Damaged or Faded Labels
If the QR code is scratched, faded, or partially covered, the camera may not be able to read it. QR codes have built-in error correction that can handle minor damage, but significant wear will require reprinting the label. Check your item's detail page to download and print a replacement label.
Still Not Working?
If you've tried all the above and the code still won't scan, try using a dedicated QR code reader app from your device's app store. Some older devices may have better results with a specialized app. You can also manually enter the URL printed below the QR code (if visible) directly in your browser.
If the issue persists, the QR code itself may be corrupted. Contact our support team with the item details and we'll help resolve the issue.
