How to discover, join, and manage your Community Network memberships on itemID.

Discovering and Joining Communities

This guide covers everything you need to know about finding communities, joining them, and managing your memberships.

Discovery

The Discover page shows available Community Networks you can join. Communities can be browsed and searched by name. Each listing shows:

  • Community name and description
  • Community type (neighbourhood, campus, workplace, etc.)
  • Number of active members
  • Available topics

Joining a Community

To join a community:

  1. Navigate to the community's page
  2. Click the Join button
  3. Optionally share your location (helps with radius-based alert delivery)
  4. Select which topics you want to subscribe to

Joining is immediate β€” there is no approval process. You become an active member as soon as you click Join.

When joining, you may be asked to share your location. This is optional but recommended because:

  • It enables radius-based alert filtering so you only get alerts near you
  • Your exact location is never shared with other members
  • You can revoke consent at any time from the subscription settings

Managing Subscriptions

After joining, you can manage your membership from the community page:

  • Topic preferences: Enable or disable specific alert topics
  • Notification settings: Control how you receive alert notifications
  • Leave community: You can leave any community at any time

My Communities

The My Communities page shows all the communities you have joined. From here you can quickly access each community, see your subscription status, and navigate to alerts.

Good to Know

Your membership includes your topic preferences and notification settings. Your trust level β€” which determines your daily alert limit β€” is calculated automatically based on how many items you have registered on itemID.
