Overview of the exploration system — places, trails, check-ins, and souvenirs.

The itemID exploration system

The exploration system extends itemID with features for discovering, exploring, and collecting. It's based on three core concepts: places, trails, and check-ins.

Core concepts

  • Places: Geographic points you can visit and check in at. Some places are created by organizations as curated points of interest, while others are personal places created by users.
  • Trails: Connect multiple places into a guided exploration path. Trails have a beginning, various waypoints, and an end.
  • Check-ins: The action of checking in at a place — via geolocation or QR code scan.

Additional features

  • Souvenirs: Licensed products registered via QR codes and collected in a gallery
  • Achievements: Badges awarded for exploration milestones
  • Progress tracking: Visual progress display for ongoing trails

Access tiers

The exploration system is available to all users. The number of places and trails you can create depends on your plan (Free: 3 places / 1 trail, Plus: 10 places / 5 trails, Pro: unlimited).
