Detailed look at the achievement system — badge types, point awards, and ranking mechanics.

Overview

The achievement system rewards exploration milestones. This page covers the mechanics in detail.

Achievement Categories

  • Exploration: First place visit (10 pts), 5 places (25 pts), 25 places (75 pts)
  • Trails: Trail completion (50 pts), visit milestones along trails
  • Hidden gems: Discovering hidden places via QR code scan
  • Collector: City souvenir registrations at various tiers

How Points Work

Points come exclusively from achievements — there are no per-check-in points. Each achievement has a fixed point value set by the system. Your total points determine your explorer ranking.

Explorer Ranking

The ranking system groups explorers into percentile buckets (Top 5%, Top 10%, Top 25%, etc.) based on total achievement points within a city. Your percentile badge is shown on the city page.

Rate Limiting

Check-ins are rate-limited to 30 per hour per user. Each place can only be visited once — revisiting updates the timestamp without creating a duplicate.
