The difference between organization-managed and personal places in itemID.

Two types of places

itemID distinguishes between organization-managed places and personal places. This distinction is central to understanding the exploration system.

Organization-managed places

Organization-managed places are created and maintained by cities or organizations. They represent official attractions, museums, shops, or other curated points of interest.

  • Created and managed by licensed organizations
  • Visible in the public Explorer
  • Can be part of city trails and campaigns
  • Have verified information and official images

Personal places

Personal places are created by individual users. They can be private favorite spots, hiking points, or other individual markers.

  • Created via the creation page (type: Place)
  • Visible only to the creator by default
  • Can be included in your own trails
  • Optional QR code for physical marking
  • Quota depends on plan

Visibility

Users can mark their personal places as "public," making them appear in search and on the map for other users. Organization-managed places are always public.
